Several years ago in a Rock prayer meeting, we discussed our concern about the terrible plight of women in our neighborhood. We dreamt of establishing a discipleship home for women in crisis. Knowing that we simply didn’t have the resources to acquire any property, we started praying and someone boldly asked God to give us a house.
Within a few weeks, the driver of a passing car noticed some of our volunteers working on our building. He made a u-turn, got out, and asked for some help with his own properties. A group of us accompanied him to find that his buildings were in major disarray, and were being used as a drug and prostitution den. There had been a fire in the buildings, all the windows were broken out, and there was no running water.
In the midst was a woman who was a heroin addict, who we learned was also dying of AIDS. The owner was distraught and asked us if there was anything we could do for her. Our Pastor Buddy Osborn replied, “We may not be able to help her, but we can help many women like her.”
At that, the owner donated his properties to the Rock. We knew God had given us our women’s home!
God was faithful to inspire all the prayer, labor, giving, and hard work needed to keep our word. The Lost Coin Women’s Home was born.
“The Lost Coin” Luke 15:8-10
